Vision insurance and Medical insurance are typically different plans with different companies. They also require different information to locate the plan. However, there are few cases where the routine eye care is included in a medical plan. Please check with your benefits administrator to verify what type of benefit you have, and what company your eye insurance is through. Most insurance companies have websites with a complete breakdown of benefits.
Accepted Vision insurance plans include but are not limited to: VSP, Cigna Vision, MetLife Vision, EyeMed, Davis Vision, Superior Vision, Spectera/UHC Vision, VBA, VCP, Allied, specific Medicaid plans, and Humana Vision.
Accepted Medical insurance plans include but are not limited to: BC/BS PPO (except for Blue Choice Network), Cigna, Medicare, Medicaid, United Healthcare and Aetna. During the routine eye exam some things end up being a medical procedure and need to be billed medically. For example, eye allergies, pink eye, an object in the eye, and many other conditions. Please bring all of your insurance cards when you come to your eye appointment.
We do not accept HMO plans for medical, as we are out of network. This includes HMO Medicaid plans (Aetna Better Health and Illini Care). Some HMO plans like BC/BS contract with separate vision plans that we do accept for routine exams and materials. Again, please verify what your benefits are with your insurance.
